energy renovation of the Bauhaus Dessau
In the extensive renovation work of the historic Bauhaus building, an important goal was to reconcile the preservation requirements of the World Heritage Site with the requirements of sustainable use - and in particular to optimize the energy efficiency of the building.
In 1925, the Bauhaus moved from Weimar to Dessau, where it flourished as a school of art, design and architecture until 1933. In Dessau, the Bauhaus' claim to help shape modern society becomes comprehensible and vivid. Here, the cooperation with industry - especially the Junkers- Werke - took place; here was built for the settler and cooperative movement; here was cooperated with the theater; here were numerous public facilities designed by members of the Bauhaus; here were created many of the prototypes with which the Bauhaus wrote design history.
Important Bauhaus buildings in Dessau are the historic Bauhaus building, the master houses, the settlement Törten, the steel house, the arcade houses, the former labor office and the Kornhaus. The Bauhaus building and the Masters' Houses have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.
The settlement Törten in the south of Dessau, built by Walter Gropius from 1926 to 1928, the arcade houses planned by Hannes Meyer and the steel house completed in 1927 represent outstanding examples of New Building of the 1920s. Between 1926 and 1928, the Törten estate was an experimental laboratory for industrialized housing construction. During the extensive renovation work of the historic Bauhaus building in recent years, an important goal was to reconcile the heritage requirements of the World Heritage Site with the requirements of sustainable use - and in particular to optimize the energy efficiency of the building.
In the Bauhaus buildings and the historic Bauhaus building are regularly held guided tours for visitors. Special tour on the topic: "Energetic renovation of the monument Bauhaus" are offered, a registration is desired.
