Forum Rathenau in Zschornewitz

The decommissioned Zschornewitz power plant, once the largest lignite-fired power plant in the world, is a place with great charisma that is to become a nucleus for new impulses in the energy industry.

"Rethinking material cycles" is one of the major tasks on the way to a sustainable and low-emission future. Carbon is a central element of these cycles and the working topic of Forum Rathenau e.V.. In the tradition of the industrialist and Reich Foreign Minister Walther Rathenau, the Forum pursues transdisciplinary approaches and wants to win over scientists, citizens, entrepreneurs, to initiate discourses and to shape the future together in the "transfer power plant" by means of these impulses. For the revitalization of the old industrial site and the associated reutilization of the existing property, scientific activities are to be reintroduced, which are to act as a think tank for the economy.

The project is supported by the Minister President of Saxony-Anhalt, Dr. Reiner Haseloff, LEAG and the Fraunhofer Institute.
