City church St. Mary

UNESCO City Church of St. Mary

The former preaching church of Martin Luther and mother church of the Reformation is one of the tourist highlights of Lutherstadt Wittenberg.

Here once preached the reformer Martin Luther. His pulpit has been preserved to this day and can be seen in the Luther House. The famous Renaissance painter Lucas Cranach the Elder designed the Reformation altar, which you can marvel at during a guided tour of the town church. You will also discover valuable panel paintings by Cranach, the ornately decorated baptismal font by Hermann Vischer, the oldest piece in the church, as well as the magnificent organ and the vestry with contemporary art.
